EPOS @ 10th edition of Cities on Volcanoes (CoV10) IAVCEI conference, in Naples (Italy), 2 - 7 September 2018

Location:
Naples, Italy

The conference Cities on Volcanoes 10 (COV 10) will take place in Naples between the 2nd and the 7th September 2018; actually twenty years after the first COV held in 1998 in Naples too.

The choice of “Millennia of Stratification between Human Life and Volcanoes: strategies for coexistence” as COV 10 title aims at focusing the objectives of the conference on the inherent resilience of human societies to volcanic risk. Millennia of coexistence with volcanoes have proven, in fact, that volcanic environments are fundamentally perceived as resources. Indeed, building and strengthening this resilience in modern and complex societies exposed to volcanic risk is a great challenge, especially when such a risk involves volcanic system with long periods of dormancy, and thus risk is poorly perceived.

The scientific programme for Cities on Volcanoes 10 has just been published.

The Scientific Technical sessions will be held from the morning of Monday 3rd until the afternoon of Friday 7th 2018.

The pre and post-conference workshops are scheduled prior and after the meeting, from 31th August to 7th September 2018.

In the frame of the event, the EPOS volcanology community (EPOS TCS Volcano Observations) sponsoring/co-sponsoring sessions, are scheduled as:

  • September 4 Tuesday:  S01.42 - The role of the GEO-GSNL initiative and of Integrated research infrastructures in improving the knowledge of volcano dynamics and hazard (ex S1 19,37) (This session has the sponsorship of EPOS and GEO-GSNL).
