TCS AH (WP14) had a very successful meeting in University of Oulu, Mining School, Finland.
On the 13th - 14th of June, 2018 representatives of 7 European institutions got together at Oulu Mining School to discuss crucial strategic activities of the group. The meeting was dedicated to a summary of the 33 months of work towards the implementation of TCS AH objectives, planning forthcoming activities, preparing for signing TCS AH Consortium Agreement and the next stages of validation.
The meeting was preceded by the Anthropogenic Hazards Workshop and IS-EPOS Platform training (11 - 13th of June) dedicated to Ph.D. and interested M.Sc. students. During two days of lectures, students got acquainted with several topics focusing on mining geophysics, especially:
- stochastic modeling of fluid-induced seismicity
- the data center for deep geothermal energy (CDGP) in Alsace
- stress changes in underground mines due to interaction of seismic events
- limits on detection and reliable analysis of small (induced) earthquakes
- innovative seismological monitoring techniques
- statistical properties of anthropogenic/tectonic seismicity
- constrained moment tensors in mining induced seismicity
- differences and problems with simple models of natural earthquakes for mine-induced seismic events
- anthropogenic processes and hazards relevant to mining wastes/ tailings storage facilities.
The main purpose of the IS-EPOS training was to educate students about anthropogenic seismicity with state of the art knowledge, tools and data through a workshop program developed from experience of conducting research with the platform, as well as the uniqueness of the anthropogenic seismicity cases. During the workshops, students acquired basic but bespoke knowledge on how to conduct research on the IS-EPOS Platform. The integrated access to multidisciplinary data and applications together with the dedicated access to tutorials, dissemination and training tools, enhanced the capacity to provide novel services to students.
